“You can’t put the genie back in the bottle”
We’re not trying to. Most of us would love for AI to be genuinely used as a tool. Most of us actually already use forms of machine learning as a tool. Stop treating this like we’re anti-technology, that’s literally not what’s happening.
The fact of the matter is that all laws designed to regulate and protect creators and their creations have applied to nearly every advancement in technology, up until now. This is different. To ignore the difference is beyond silly. Not one law or regulation or any form of protection for creation could have predicted anything like this.
So simply put, we aren’t trying to re-bottle the genie. We realize that can’t be done. Most of us see the potential of ai. But we aren’t gonna sit back and be hopeful that only good people with good intentions will use the machine, we’re gonna fight to make sure the future of human-made art is safe. And it’s not just for us or our jobs, it’s for you. It’s for everyone. We know it’s here to stay, but it’s not welcome in it’s current form and we will make sure the world knows until that is fixed.
Also quit with the “automation is coming for us all” nonsense. There are certain things automation shouldn’t touch, and art is one of them. We need more artists, but we don’t need art to be “more productive” and “faster” and “cheaper”. We never did. No one is passionate about factory assembly line production. Humans are passionate about creating. About collecting. We’re passionate about connecting with other humans. If you want a world with automated lifeless art, I truly don’t know how to help you. Most of us would hate it.
